For the initial 3-4 months of this year I was getting phone response that they are awaiting external agency information. Then from May-June onwards they started saying it is in the process, then in August the lady said it been actively worked on, few weeks ago they said I will get update in the post but I didn’t get anything, 2 weeks ago the lady took my phone number and then called me back to tell me that the work is being done and I will hear from them shortly. I asked the question will I be included in the next ceremony and the response was “yes I will”. I have not received anything so I called them today and the lady said “ we are awaiting external agency information”. So back to square one...different responses from the same office.....

Hello @Syjem, did you also apply as EUFAM? Otherwise, I'd inclined to think that there's something in your application that's holding it up. Possibly a court appearance or a fine, or a traffic offense. Could you please share it with us?

My application is not based on EUFAM status and I don't have any sort of fine or traffic offense.

I never understood the meaning of these replys

further processing
advance stage
final stage
application complete

non of those replies has proven promising most applicant who are waiting for a long time i-e 2 years just jump between these stages

@Mal111: yes about 3 - 4 weeks ago they told me that I will soon get update in post next week and will be included in the November Ceremony. The following week they took my mobile number and then after 2 hours I received phone call from them that I will hear from them shortly. Last week on the phone they said they are awaiting information from the external agency (I was getting this response of awaiting information from November 2017 to March/April 2018 and then they stopped saying this). Applied in November 2016( 5 years residence Stamp 1 and Stamp 4), acknowledgment in December 2016, 2nd stage letter in July 2017, since then nothing. No charges, no court appearance or any such record.

Hi I applied for Irish citizenship in July 2016 based on 5 years residence, stamp 4. My file went to second stage in November 2016. It has been 2 years my file in second stage and they don't give me much information. Could anyone recommend what to do?

Did you ever call to find out the progress? From experience, calling them pays off at the end. Just keep calling. Even folks with court or fine records still get notified of the reason for the delays and expected response dates. Keep calling.

I applied since 2016 June bro and got my 2nd stage letter after 2 years last February 2018 since then no progress and same bullshit replies which are generic through emails. Even once i told on phone that "my application has been completed and i will get my notification soon" next week i rang them and a different lady said we are still awaiting some info from an external agency. I don't believe a single word they say now. This system is totally unfair and there is no justice for people who work here really hard and are law abiding citizens. Why someone else can get the approval in 1 year and others are treating like rubbish?I am really devastated and don't know myself what to do.

Its a good idea to see how many of us are EUFAM and from India/Pak region. But only this won't resolve our issues. We should all together lodge some complaint against INIS to higher authorities. Why they can't give us some time frame or why other applications are processed quickly? And what are the straight forward applications? Anyway we will have to hope for next ceremony now if we all are lucky enough.

I doubt the delay is only about your country of origin. A friend of mine from Africa applied as non-EU Stamp 1 and 4, 5 year residency and he’s been waiting for over a year now. My guess is that applications are being delayed because they’re conducting some sort of investigations and checks and only when they’re done, they’ll submit the file to the minister for a decision. If those investigations were already completed then they’d submit to the minister and once a decision is made, the applicant is informed. I don’t think they’ll submit to the minister without completing all the checks/investigations. Of course, what those investigations and checks are remain a mystery to everyone from outside.

In another thread (ireland/irish-citizenship-application-f ... 60466.html), someone mentioned that normally, the approval should come about 4 months after the second stage letter otherwise the applicant has been naughty somewhere.
On the flip side, because the application hasn’t yet been rejected, it means that it’s still pretty much being looked after which is better than a bare rejection I supposed.
Obviously without knowing what’s being done in that department, I’m just speculating. We're all in this so we'd try to be positive about the situation even if it's unfair and it sucks!

I don't understand guys how long is gonna be like that? I heard department should make a decision on your application in 30 months maximum or we can hire some barrister for judicial review. Is there anyone who's facing the same time period delay as mine? I am really devastated and i don't think i am gonna get any approval for this ceremony too :(

given that we don’t know the actual reason our application is being delayed, it’s kind of hard to know where to go from here and I’m afraid all we can do is just to wait. I know it’s pretty stressful especially given that there’s a ceremony looming around and we look set to miss it. As I said before, my guess is the delay is being caused by an investigation taking longer than expected, maybe they found something odd and they’re digging into it further and until that process is complete they won’t submit it your file to the minister for a decision. Also, applying via a lawyer sounds a little bit counterproductive to me as it may be interpreted like you’re trying to hide something even if it might not be the case.
