Post by courny » Sun Jul 07, 2013 8:36 pm

does anyone have a list of documents required to apply for an irish passport?
and do we need to submit original documents, like marriage, birth certs etc?

Passport form.
Fee.
4 photos, 2 signed/stamped.
Birth certificate.
Marriage certificate, if applicable.
Naturalization certificate, or whatever.
Proof of name.
Proof of address.
Proof of ID (other passport, etc.)

As per the Citizenship Division Form you must submit your Original Current Passport.

Everything you'll submit as a first time Passport applicant must be Original.

Expect in proof of name or address where certified Drivers Licence is accepted (You must certify it at your local garda station).

They are very strict with first time applicants.

You also must submit your Original Naturalisation Certificate, take it with you to the police station when getting your 2 signed photos stamped at your local garda station.

Note: Some documents may require authentication such as your birth certificate or marriage cert

The DFA website (for first-time applicants) states that everything should be original except the proof of ID, for which it says:

additional form of photo-identification; e.g. certified copy of a drivers licence, work ID; student card; social club membership; passport from other country etc.

Moreover, I submitted a certified copy of my passport and got away with it.

Yes there is not doubt that what it said, but as I said ''As per the Citizenship Division Form''

In a leaflet given to New Irish Citizens, it mention you must submit your original passport. And they highlighted must in a bold letter.

Its contradicting I know, but thats Ireland for you

In that case, this must be a special rule only for new citizens by naturalization. I guess it may be applicable to the OP.

I got my passport copy certified by a solicitor. (However, according to IntegratedMigrant, you may need to supply originals, so this is irrelevant.)

Congrats, how come passport was provided in 4 days? did you apply in person? or through post office? I thought it requires 2-3 weeks to get the first passport.
