IRP extension until 2022 and travel abroad

Post by Lost991697 » Mon Sep 20, 2021 9:40 am

Hi everyone. I'm here on a Stamp 1 (Critical Skills) visa. My IRP expires early October - I've already applied to renew it.

From my understanding, there's a bit of a backlog and it's taking longer for the IRP to be renewed. I have to go to a wedding mid October, and it's seeming unlikely that I'll have received my new IRP. With the new extension, does this mean I can travel to the UK for the wedding, even if my current IRP has expired?

I've e-mailed the folks at the immigration office but it'll take a while for them to respond.

Thanks!

Also if it makes a difference, I've a Pakistani passport. So can't come and go as I please unlike the Americans etc.

What’s your nationality and do you need a visa to enter Ireland and the UK?

Pakistani - I need a visa to enter both. I have a 2 year long UK visa so that's not an issue. It'd just be coming back that would be the issue I think.

I found this that INIS published today in case anyone else is curious. So no, can't travel. Really inconvenient.

If you are a visa-required person and have an Irish Residence Permit (formerly GNIB card) which
expired after 20th March 2020, your permission has been automatically renewed until 20th
September 2021. However, if you have travelled on an expired IRP card or your IRP card expired
while you were outside the State, you will need to apply to your local Visa Office/Embassy for a re-
entry visa to allow you travel back to Ireland. IMPORTANT: You should not attempt to travel if your
IRP card is out of date – you may be refused boarding by the airline and may have difficulties at
border control and/or in transit.
Applicants will need to explain when and why they left the State without having secured
permission to return.
If applicants are looking to return they will need to demonstrate why their case is to be
treated as an emergency/priority.

Yes correct. You cannot travel unless you have either a valid IRP card or a valid re-entry visa.

Waiting for your new IRP card to arrive is your best bet. Keep sending them emails with proof of urgent travel needs if necessary. Alternatively, apply for a re-entry visa.

As a follow up, I got the e-mail that my IRP has been processed and should receive it within 5-10 business days early last week. Still no sign of the card in the mail though - how long has it taken for people recently? I'm meant to fly Thursday but might have to put it off if I don't get it tomorrow.

Hey!

Could you share with us when you received the confirmation email if you don't mind?
You applied on 02/09 right?

I'm just trying to establish a timeline. I applied for mine on 23/09 and I'm in a mega rush due to a job offer.

Thanks!

I'm really afraid, I need to travel on 10 December and I'm hearing 10-12 week processing times. I submitted my application on 29 September.
