Legal status during divorce

Hello everyone,

I've got a question pertaining my immigration status during a divorce. I've been married to a UK citizen for a year now (I'm a non-EU citizen) and have recently found out that he met someone else and wants a divorce. This is a real blow to me, but on top of everything else I don't want to leave the UK as I've been here for nearly 3 years now (on a student visa previously) and have my life and friends here, as well as a good job which I'd hate to lose. My question is: during the divorce proceedings, which I know can take up to a year, am I allowed to stay in the UK? Thank you very much in advance!

What is your current visa?

If you are on a spouse visa, your leave will not be valid if you are not in a subsisting relationship. Once divorced, even worse as you will have no means to extend your spouse visa.

You will have to look into other categories of visas that you might qualify for.
