Post by Farheen555 » Mon May 24, 2021 10:01 pm

Hi everyone,
First time posting here as im so confused.
Currently my husband works in Saudia Arabia, he has oy 1 day off on Friday and the rest he works from 7am till 6pm,
My question is,
My husbands employer is not allowing him any time off for studying and preparing for the test
Can someone please guide me what we should do to overcome this hurdle?
I was hoping to apply for a spouse visa in about few months but by the looks of it i dont think itll happen,

Will really really be thankful if someone can guide us

Keep in mind that A1 Life Skills is a very basic test.

It involves only speaking and listening in English, and only to a very minimal extent.

Here is one definition that I found online.
English Level A1 wrote: A1 level English skills in detail

The official can-do statements are broken down into smaller chunks for teaching purposes. This more detailed skill breakdown can help you assess your own English level, or help a teacher assess a student’s level. For example, a student at the A1 level in English will be able to:

introduce himself simply and use basic greetings.

tell where he and others are from and give a basic description of his city.

talk simply about family and colleagues, describing their appearance and personalities.

discuss clothing at a basic level and ask salesclerks simple questions about it.

talk about favorite foods and make simple orders for take-out food.

talk about daily activities and arrange meetings with friends and colleagues.

describe current weather conditions and suggest activities according to the weather forecast.

talk in general terms about his health and describe common medical symptoms to a doctor.

describe the location of his home and give simple directions.

talk about his hobbies and interests and makes plans for fun activities with friends or colleagues.

complete basic transactions at a hotel, including checking in and checking out.

discuss common products, make basic purchases and return faulty items.
Can your partner manage this?

He failed it previously without any prep and then we decided he needs little practice,
But his employer doesnt allow him any time off,
He would go back to pakistan but he is in midterm of his employment contract and will cost him a great deal to leave work plus travel expences,
I know the A1 is a must but we are in a impossible situation at the moment,
Will the homeoffice refuse his visa without it?

i really dont know how he’ll be able to pass his test with out preperation,
We have kids together who are British,
Cant this issue be one of the exceptional rules due to the kids and he can do all his English here in the UK?

It is unlikely that they would give him an exemption because his children are British. Their argument will be that the children and spouse can move abroad to live with him if they so wish.

Can he watch more English programmes at home? He could listen to BBC 6-minute podcasts on learning English and other podcasts, while working. There are also Youtube channels on learning basic English that he can watch in any downtime.

And when he speaks to you and the kids, you should focus on speaking to him only in English.

Child benefit, UC will count as income under adequate mainteance.
