UK Marriage visit visa- No update

Hi guys,
I am a British National and my fiance is a sri lankan. He applied for a marriage visitor visa 3 weeks ago. However we did not receive any update or any emails at all. Online application was sucessfull and received email for that. And he handed in all the documents and provided biometrics 3 weeks ago. But no email or text message since then. He even paid extra for the "SMS update" but received nothing yet.
Could there be a technical problem maybe? or shall i email them (Which cost £5)? or shall i wait more?

Marriage visitor visa. We are not married yet.

Is it the cheaper Marriage Visitor Visa at £85 odd one or the more expensive £1523 Fiance Visa?

Do you not intend to live in the UK or only marrying in the UK and living abroad??

A cheaper marriage visitor visa doesn't allow your partner to switch to a spouse visa within the UK, hence Casa asking for clarity on what you have applied for.

The cheaper one. we paid £99 for the application. He is only coming to the UK to marry me. He will return back to Sri Lanka after the marriage. He is not planning to settle in UK. I will most likely move to Sri Lanka with him in future.

What documents did you submit with the application?

Yes we have met in person when I went to visit him in Sri Lanka.


We provided:
- His passport
- Proof he is eligible to marry again,
- Plans we have made in UK (Flight itenery, letter of invitation from me, my passport copy to show I am a british national, booking confirmation to give notice of marriage in UK, email conversation with wedding venue, receipts of wedding expenses which i have paid and which he have paid for.
- His employment: His business registration doc, business bank statements.
- His Income: His personal bank statements,letter from his accountant with proof of his salary and dividend vouchers.
- Documents showing i will be supporting his visit expenses: my bank statements, my employment letter, payslips.
- His assests and address proof: Land deeds under his name, passport copies of his parents who live with him in Sri lanka.
- Our relationship: Our pictures, communications (whatsapp, viber, skype chats and calls), supporting letter from my parents, evidence of my visit to sri lanka (passport stamps)).


I just want to know if it's normal to not receive any kind of update from them. i don't mind waiting an extra week. I am only worried because there's no emails or text messages from them since the day we applied. it's been 3 weeks.

UKVI won't update you until a decision is made.

If you live and work in the UK, his application will likely be scrutinised and UKVI could take the view that he is attempting to circumvent the rules by applying for the cheaper visa rather than applying under the more arduous settlement visa route. This is due to a lot of abuse of this cheaper route and spouses then attempting to stay in the UK. There have been many tales of woe in the last year or so.
