Marrying my foreign partner in the UK? Possible?

Post by Kjglen87 » Thu Feb 07, 2019 3:16 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could offer me some help/advice.

I am a British citizen but currently reside in Thailand. My partner (same sex) is thai and we are looking to get married in the UK over the next few months. Is this possible?

A few things: were not looking to reside in the UK yet, we are going to down the official route in a year or so time. My partner is a trained doctor from a European country, so immigration stated our chances are good.

How would we get a visa to marry in UK?

Does it matter that we don’t want to live in the UK together straight away?

Thanks for any help

If only to marry and not stay/live in the UK, see link below.

A Marriage Visitor Visa allows one to marry in the UK, but like a visit visa, the applicant is expected to leave the UK afterwards.

As one of the parties to the marriage is a British citizen, the other party will have to show strong proof of links to his home country, etc, to show that s/he does intend to leave the UK after the marriage.

EDIT: Beaten by speedy CR001.
