Mom Marriage

Post by bumofthebeach » Sat Dec 28, 2019 8:14 pm

Hi all! I'm a 23 year old male in the US. My mother is engaged to a gentleman from the UK. I am very interested in dual citizenship and was curious as to what steps should be taken once they are married. Is it like the US where he could sponsor me? I have been adopted once before (by her ex husband), so I'm not sure that he could adopt me. I know in the US a family member can sponsor a immigrant and then they can gain citizenship that way.

I'd love any and all advice.

Thank you,

Z.

As you are an adult, no he cannot sponsor you as a dependent to the UK with your mom for a spouse visa.

You also don't qualify for dual citizenship simply because your mom marries a British citizen. Your mom doesn't even qualify for British citizenship simply by marrying a British citizen.

Note that unlike the US, the UK doesn't permit chain migration for all over 18 family members.
