Name change on ILR

Post by Mohammedhaleem11 » Thu Oct 03, 2019 5:52 pm

Hi.

Sorry if I have posted in the wrong thread as I am new to this forum.

I have a issue which I am hoping someone can help me with.

My wife has a Pakistani passport which I have had renewed, however her nadra card was expired too so i renewed that too. At the time of renewing the nadra card the person at the consulate told me to change my wifes name to include my surname to which we was if there is no issues then do it. Now when applying for the passport another person at the desk mentioned that we would need to change her name on the ILR too. The problem is we are flying out to dubai on the 26th Oct and the processing time for name change is 6 months. My flight tickets are non refundable so is there anything I can do?

Would we have problems leaving and entering the UK, as it is as her old passport has the same name as the ILR?

No. You can travel either under your name or under your married name as long you carry the marriage certificate

There are a lot of people who dont change their maiden name with husband's surname rather simply get amended their nadra ID card with husband name from father's name upon marrying which is abolustely acceptable without even having the need to update/amend anything on BRP card. However, if now you have chosen the new married name and your passport has been renewed with that name then yes you will have to update it on BRP card within 3 months to avoid any penalty which usually is £1000
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

Hi zimba

Thank you for your reply. Are you saying that if I travel without changing the name on the ILR even though it is different to the passport I wont have problems at immigration?

Correct. In the UK, you can use your married name without even changing it via deed poll
