Name changes with dual nationality?

Post by xxckxx » Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:37 am

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody has information on what the procedure is if I want to change my name (well, add a name to my existing name) as a dual national.

I know I can easily change my name in the UK via deedpoll but would that be accepted in my country of birth? Or would I have to change my name in my country of birth and then inform the UK authorities of the change?

Thank you!

Hi

In the UK, it's easy. In some countries it's borderline impossible to change name. So you need to check with the other country. Otherwise, you end up with 2 passports, 2 different names. And if you have to use both them at one point, it will involve showing a certificate indicating that your name has been changed.

If the new name is a married name then usually marriage certificate alone is sufficient.
