Naturalisation Application - Required Documents

Post by KhajaM » Tue Dec 23, 2025 2:45 pm

Dear Members,

Would someone be able to shed some light on the requirements for a naturalisation application intended to be made by my spouse, who is currently on ILR e-Visa (I'm a British Citizen).

Immigration situation so far -

24/07/2015 - Got Married.
11/11/2015 - "Spouse/Partner Visa" Granted (applied from outside of UK (India).
10/12/2015 - Wife arrived in the UK.
09/11/2016 - I (partner) was naturalised as BC.
06/08/2018 - Granted Further Leave To Remain for FLR(M) as a spouse/partner of a BC.
03/12/2018 - Surname change (marriage) BRP re-issued.
27/08/2020 - Life In The UK Test Passed (no certificate provided, only an email with the reference number).
04/06/2021 - ILR Granted via SET(M). UK NARIC certificates used for Academic Qualification Level and English Language Proficiency, based on Indian Bachelor's Degree.

My questions are around the requirement documents to be provided.
  • ILR evidence - given my spouse is on the e-Visa now, how does one provide evidence of this? The ILR BRP card had expired in December 2024.
  • LIUK Test - this was done in August 2020, would this still be valid? Or does one need to take this test again?
  • English Language - NARIC is now ECCTIS - plus the NARIC certificates we've got, are over 5 years old. Can these still be used? Or do we need to re-apply for these?
  • Proof of Residence - is the passport (with immigration stamps) enough for this? Or any other documents required to prove this?
  • Good Character Declaration - just a declaration to be made? Or any documents needed for this?
  • Also, does one need to be employed and/or show any income/tax/P60s etc.? My spouse is not employed, never have been - so, don't have any of these.
Please could someone answer these queries?

I'd be grateful for any replies.

Best regards,
Khaja.

Home Office have the information on their systems. Just quote the reference number.
  • LIUK Test - this was done in August 2020, would this still be valid? Or does one need to take this test again?
Test doesn't expire. Just quote the reference number.
  • English Language - NARIC is now ECCTIS - plus the NARIC certificates we've got, are over 5 years old. Can these still be used? Or do we need to re-apply for these?
As this was provided for ILR applicant can rely on this, just check the correct option "was provided for ILR".
  • Proof of Residence - is the passport (with immigration stamps) enough for this? Or any other documents required to prove this?
Passport is sufficient for ILR holders.
  • Good Character Declaration - just a declaration to be made? Or any documents needed for this?
There's nothing to provide if there are no issues, signing the application via "submit" is the declaration that everyting is true to the best of knowledge etc. However,if there is something to disclose you have to disclose.
  • Also, does one need to be employed and/or show any income/tax/P60s etc.? My spouse is not employed, never have been - so, don't have any of these.
There are no financial requirements or employment for naturelaisation.
Please could someone answer these queries?

I'd be grateful for any replies.

Best regards,
Khaja.

Thank you for your response, @alterhase58.

As this was provided for ILR applicant can rely on this, just check the correct option "was provided for ILR".

There does not appear to be such an option on the online application form.

The following questions are what I see.
  • Did you meet the knowledge of English requirement as part of an indefinite leave application made on or after 28 October 2013?
    I answered Yes.
  • Do you have a degree that was taught in English? I answered Yes.
  • Country your degree was taught inIndiaDoes your degree meet the English language requirement for this visa? I answered Yes.
  • English language - I answered degree taught in English
  • What will you use to prove your degree taught in English? Degree certificate
And then in the final Documents checlist, I'm being asked to provide the following again, this time around.
  • Ecctis letter that confirms the qualification meets or exceeds the recognised standard of a Bachelor's or Masters degree or PhD in the UK AND confirm the level of English to which the degree was taught or researched
  • The degree certificate for Mrs Samreen Ameena Mohammed to prove the level of English language required

You answered correctly, and you can provide the degree certificate with the letter you have. NARIC has changed name to ECCTIS.

Thanks @contorted_svy.

I've got one more question around the immigration details, where the question on the form is as follows.

Have you made any previous UK immigration applications in the UK or abroad?

Do I need to enter each & every application I've made to the home office, prior to the ILR application?

For example, the FLR application & the spouse/partner visa application (made from outside of UK) etc?

Yes, all applications made in/outside the UK which grant limited or indefinite leave (not visitor visa applications).
Provide all data you have or can remember, you'll be ok if you need to estimate/guess some dates.
Note this is not a statutory requirement and you can't be refused for missing or estimating data.

Thank you so much for your help so far, guys.

I'm filled & submitted the online application form now, and now on the TLS Contact website, trying to upload the scanned documents.

However, each document uploaded needs to have a category selected against it - but the categories don't strictly match the documents being uploaded.

Any pointers?

It doesn't matter, the caseworker assessing your application will view all the documents you uploaded irrespective of the category you selected for each.

These are NOT required. Do not submit unnecessary documents "just in case". Only your passport stamped pages are required!!!
