Do I need transit/visitor visa for flight via Dublin?

Post by dannyire » Sat Sep 21, 2019 12:01 pm

I live in the UK and I am on PBS Dependent Visa. I need to go to the USA and the flight is via Dublin.

My flight is from UK to Dublin & Dublin to the USA - and return.

Before I book I just want to be sure if I require Ireland transit or visitor visa or not. I have looked at https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... isa-scheme

and

http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/visa-short-tourist

but it's still unclear to me. I can see if I have a visitor visa then I can go to Ireland.

Please advise if I can travel using my PBS Dependent visa too.

It’s very clear on INIS website:
Unless your arrival flight and onward connecting flight is in Terminal 2 between the hours of 0400 and 1600, you will need to go landside to make your onward connecting flight. This requires that you seek permission to enter the State (you will need to have the appropriate Irish entry visa if you are visa required for entry to Ireland).

I didn't see that info on the link I posted above however, i have searched for that and found it on their website.

I have also read this on this page http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/fees
Nationals of the countries included in the Irish Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme
Nationals of the countries included in the Irish Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme who are long term legal residents in the UK or Schengen area.
And on this page - http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/visa-short-tourist
Travel between Ireland & UK using a single UK-Irish visa
You can visit Ireland and the United Kingdom using a single visa issued by either country, if you are a Chinese or Indian citizen. For instance:
> You can visit Ireland without applying for an Irish visa, if you have an eligible UK (short stay) visitor visa.
PBS dependant is long term visa so I am not sure the Irish shot stay visa waiver programme applies to me?

The waiver programme does not apply to your visa category. You need a visa.

As CR001 said, you need a visa (unless you transit in Dublin Airport T2 between 4am and 4pm on the same day).

Only visitor visas issued by either countries, with remarks BIVS, are eligible to visit the other country without a visa.
