Any advice on a new city?

This is an area for the discussion of matters related to issues about moving from one country to another. Examples could be about money transfer, moving and packing, validity of driving licence, etc..

It is not a general non-immigration, free-for-all area.

Generally, the 'better, safer' areas of a town or city have higher property rentals.
Avon police 'Crime Mapping' shows Bristol as having a 'high crime level'...similar crime maps also show high crime for Manchester, Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
Having said that, I once strayed one block out in Seattle and wished I'd paid more attention to the street map!
You may well be better off in a town than a city, wherever you choose to settle. Rental is likely to be lower too.
You're definitely right, Casa. I haven't checked out the crime maps, but I will do so. Ironically enough, my career field is law enforcement, but I would prefer to live in an area that is safe :) . I'm going to contact a few landlords before we visit next month to view a few apartments. Even if they're not available this summer, I can at least have an agent recommend a new place to live. That's just me giving myself some confidence I suppose.
