just curious, can a us citizen apply for uk citizenship without loosing us citizenship?

As far as UK is concerned you can have other citizenships (they dont ask exclusivity), however, your other countrY(ies) should also permit it, and as far as I know you can only have one passport in the USA.

I thought that US law allows for dual citizenship, as long as the dual nationality holder does not serve in a non-US armed forces, or uses a US passport for travel to and from the US. Aside from that, a US national may take another nationality without giving up US citizenship. However, if you are becoming a national of a state that does not permit dual citizenship [like Germany] then you lose your US nationality upon German naturalisation.

In short, if you apply for another nationality voluntarily (that is, you're not becoming a citizen of another country by virtue of marriage and the like), you do lose US citizenship.
