Hi everyone, as some of you may know, the Home Office is currently undergoing a review of whether or not to amend current workpermit policy to allow agencies to apply for permit, instead of just the end employer. Based on the paper from the Home Office, the options are:

1) Keep the existing policy with no changes
2) Allow agencies to apply for work permits in certain sectors
3) Allow agencies to apply for work permits across the board

The deadline for submitting views on this topic is 14 June 2002. Please get as many views in as you can, as there will be certainly those who will be sending in opinions to restrict work permit policy, so anyone who can submit a piece in favour of a more relaxed work permit procedure please do so before the 14th. Thanks, and the link with the info is below:

Thanks. I just got a reply from Joanna at Workpermits UK acknowledging my letter, and informing me of the next steps in the process. I urge everyone who is in favour of expanding the work permit laws to contact Joanna before 14 June, as this review could assist skilled workers who intend to benefit the UK economy greatly.

What weightage will be given to the view of work permit holders and aspirants compared to that of local British people?
I may be wrong but writing to them is just a waste of time.

Well, people who have attained ILR and/or citizenship are on this board, so their opinions would count more, if the HomeOffice was giving more weight to views from citizens. [Which they probably are] Besides, it only took me 15 minutes to draft a nicely worded letter to them, so it was not that big of a waste of time. It can only help, and you have nothing to lose.
