Banya Member Member # 4097 | Posted July 10, 2002 05:40 PM Dear All, I have been told that according to new EU policy 'legal redidents of EU' would be eligible to work in any EU country without applying for work permit or any other permission. For example: a Pakistani passport holder with UK ILR would be eligible for work in France, Italy.... Any comments... Thanks |

Sus Member Member # 4347 | Posted July 12, 2002 11:37 AM Hector, I understand that the Schengen agreement allows for this, and that's why the UK didn't sign it. |
User Member Member # 3726 | Posted July 12, 2002 11:50 AM Hi, Schengen Agreement does not allow one (with a EU member state Workpermit or PR or Visitor visa) to Work throughout the EU... it only allows one to travel as a Visitor throughout the EU. Having said that, its an unfortunate thing for us (work permit holders/ILR holders) that UK is not a member of Schengen. Well, UK may have its own reasons for not joining the Schengen. regards. Thorsten von Thyssen Member Member # 4397 | Posted July 15, 2002 02:37 PM It is not Shnegen it is the new proposed European Directive about permanent residents of the EU. UK has decided not to adopt this directive (partly because of Shnegen's border control issues). -------------------- ----------------------------------- |

Deleted Member Member # 128 | Posted July 15, 2002 04:18 PM Here's the directive: http://europa.eu.int/scadplus/leg/en/lvb/l23034.htm It does say that "The Member States must take the necessary measures to implement this Directive by 31 December 2003 at the latest." |
Thorsten von Thyssen Member Member # 4397 | Posted July 15, 2002 04:31 PM Hector, As with most EU directives a member state can decide not to adopt a directive. The UK has therefore decided not to adopt this directive. -------------------- ----------------------------------- |
