I happen to work for an IT company that, unlike most of the industry, has remained profitable throughout the difficulties that started in 2000 and continue until today.

However, in a further showing that the current market conditions are still rather challenging, the company has decided to make 10% of the staff redundant as a preventative measure for times to come. I don’t know yet whether I’ll be affected but nevertheless this news is another indication that there’s still a long way to go before the IT job market picks up again.

You are wrong (No offence). I think tech sector was the hardest hit in this downturn so if you were able to keep your job, does not mean that IT was doing well after 2000.
Given the current state of economy, the markets may not pick up for one or two years and the job market even later.
So I would advise IT guys stick to their current jobs and also consider alternative career untill the job market gets beeter in a couple of years time (Hopefully).

Hi Deepak.

I didn’t say IT did well after 2000 ; I think you misinterpreted what I wrote.

I said that my company has always been profitable (and still is) while the IT market in general has been depressed since 2000. The fact that even the companies that are doing well are laying off people is an indication of how depressed the market remains.

I agree with Deepak as far as time for improvement goes. It sure would take a year or two. Do you guys think that world economy was at its extreme charm, which is really a dream and it was. Now economy is coming out of that dream with the accounting scams and other problems like xerox, enron, WorldCom and who knows how many more. Well, I hope there will be not more companies like this to destroy the economy at a whole.

This is exactly why I am taking my MSc this coming September. I have been meaning to do it and now, given the current market, would be a good time to pursue it. We shall see how things look come sept 2003...

Hey WorldCitizen, nice to see you back. I have decided to defer my MSc admission to next year, due to the fact that I'll have more time to apply for more and better schools. Furthermore, by next year, I'll have five years of work experience, which will earn me points towards HSMP. Plus, I'll have more money saved up. I wish you all the best in your endavour.

Hector, sorry to hear about that. I hope everything all works out for you, and best of luck!

No. As I've already stated in previous postings, I'm proud to say that I'm one of the few posters in this forum who is not afraid of disclosing the name of my company: www.london-bridge.com

Hi
I have filled the forms for some of the Universities in UK for MSc in 'Computer Sc.' for this september intake. I've read that UK market is comin up really good in IT and there are plenty of jobs. I have also near about 3 years of experience in IT. Would somebody highlight the job prospects in IT in UK as far as my case goes.

Hi Hector!
I have one question and its rather strange that as u earlier wrote that ur company is planning to layoff some ppl but they still need some ppl i mean in "Careers" section of ur company there are still some open positions. And on the jobboards too when u search u find a lot jobs adds IS IT ALL FAKe or is it different for Job seekes who need WP, I am not there in UK now so may be u know better what is actually the case.
Thanks.

Whatever positions you see advertised in my company's website are just obsolete; they obviously haven't updated that section of the website.

Regarding job sites, many vacancies are "duplicates" because many agencies advertise the very same position as they're competing among them.

i browse your mentioned site for WP, over mentioned that if some one (employer) ask for Work Permit just ask him that you already hire a laywer for WP processing OR i 'll pay you(employere) processing fee for WP.

So my question is

If i 'll hire one lawyer for WP processing, so how much fees/payment should i have to pay lawyer. hector pls advise.

Thanks & best Regards
