Hi everyone,

My US g/friend will be visiting/staying with me soon and we were wondering if any of you kind people know whether her 6yr old daughter would be allowed to go to our local state school? Would it depend on what kind of visa my g/friend holds?
I remember reading on a previous post that her daughter could go to state school only as a dependant of a student visa holder but NOT as a dependant of a visitor visa holder, is this correct?

Finally, what visa would her daughter require
to come and settle here with us?

Thanks for your time,
Regards to Hector,kiwinyc & others...

That's correct. If your girlfriend came on a visitor visa, her daughter would not be entitled to state education. Visitors are considered tourists thus they're not expected/allowed to get education here.

For information on bringing the child over, see <<here>>.

Ok Hector. So would she be eligible for school if her mother was here on a student visa?
Sorry, but I still can't find any confirmation of this question from your link.

Regards,
Alan

I don't know if the mother's student visa would entitle the child to state education. Ask the Home Office: contact details <<here>>.
