Could anyone help with the following?

My working visa expires in half a year. I have been working for more than 3 years as a work permit holder now, I am sure my employer is interested to continue my employment in future.I would also like to apply for ILR in due course. However, should my work permit be not extended (one of the guys I know-non EC, as I am, was not granted a work permit extension though his employer had been interested in his further employment), will I have any problems getting ILR? (I understand Home Office will contact our local immigration to check on my status, etc)
Or should I try to apply for IRL just before my working visa expires and after that apply for my the extension of my work permit?

regards,

lena

You must ensure that your work permit/visa covers at least 4 years in order to qualify for ILR. If your current permit is expiring before the 4 years are due, then your employer must apply for an extension.
