Hi Hector,

Thanks for your reply. However I would like to ask once again what is the first thing I am better off doing- to apply for IRL or to extend my work permit?
I have been working on a working visa since 1999 and in June next year I can apply for IRL. As I told my employers are and will be supporting me. Could I apply for IRL first just before 4 weeks my visa expires and in case of favourable answer I wouldn’t need to apply for a work permit anymore?
Or the only way to do it is to get an extension of my work permit and after that to apply for IRL?

Regards,
Lena

Could anyone help with the following?
My working visa expires in half a year. I have been working for more than 3 years as a work permit holder now, I am sure my employer is interested to continue my employment in future.I would also like to apply for ILR in due course. However, should my work permit be not extended (one of the guys I know-non EC, as I am, was not granted a work permit extension though his employer had been interested in his further employment), will I have any problems getting ILR? (I understand Home Office will contact our local immigration to check on my status, etc)
Or should I try to apply for IRL just before my working visa expires and after that apply for my the extension of my work permit?

regards,

lena

You must ensure that your work permit/visa covers at least 4 years in order to qualify for ILR. If your current permit is expiring before the 4 years are due, then your employer must apply for an extension.

You say your 4 years on work permit are up on June 2003. Now, when does your current work visa expire?

Hi!
Thanks for a prompt reply.
My current visa expires in June 2003, the same time as my work permit.
Looking forward to your reply!

In that case, you need not apply for a work-permit extension. Since you're allowed to apply as early as 4 weeks before your 4th anniversary, you would apply for ILR on May 2003. See <<this page>>.
