Hi,

One of colleagues has done Masters in Computers Science from Belgium University. Recently she got a job in UK and her employer is not ready to apply for WP. How can she get a WP?.

Please advice.

Thanks for your help.

Only the employer can apply for the work permit, she can't get one any other way. Has she received an offer for a job and is just standing by until they are ready to apply for the work permit before actually starting work?

If she has a Masters and the necessary experience she will probably qualify for HSMP however working in UK illegally would negate her chances of obtaining it if she is working already without a permit.

You need to clarify the actual situation.

She has 4 jobs in her hand. But all the companies has mentioned that if she can get a WP, she can come and join at anytime. She is a fresher and has no experience so HSMP option is ruled out.

Ah okay, then they have to apply for the Work Permit for her. You might try contacting workpermit.com directly and have them instruct the employer how to go about it or alternatively she can offer to pay the expenses herself and work with workpermit.com to educate them about the process.

I'm sure more experienced people on this board have better advice. It's the old chicken and egg situation as usual. It could be they don't know about the process or they are trying to turn her down gently by using the lack of WP as an excuse. Either way I'd call them on it by offering to help with the process, if they are genuinely interested they might appreciate it.

A very good reply, Elisa. That's the way to go. Working with wp.com or another solicitor would be the best way forward.
