guys...

which country is better?

well, the answer depends on your long term vision, and especially for us Indians, the reason why we are out of our country.

if you are intending to settle down abroad and looking for a good quality of life, then UK is not the place to be...

whereas, if all you want is to earn as much as you can, and go back to India, then, well maybe you can stay in this "dump" called London, save as much as you can and shoot back to India.

I want quality of life... and that's why I feel australia is better. I think I had the wrong impression about quality of life here in the UK.

I don't know about the USA, but I'd rather not waste my "earning years" working for a desi employer on a H1B... earning peanuts and getting explioted to the max.

as far as job hunting goes...

ajay, I was originally intending to come here on a working holiday visa, in Oct 2003. I had applied for jobs online during that time, from Sydney....there was no response, but then my visa was refused too.

I applied for HSMP in the meantime, and in Dec 2003, I got an e-mail from an Agency (while I was in Madras on vacation), asking if I was still looking for work.

I responded that I was seriously looking and will be in the UK very shortly. He arranged for face-2-face interviews only after I scanned and emailed my tickets to the UK (he didnt ask for that).

I had a couple of face-2-face interviews pre-arranged a week after I arrived here.

After that it was a no-brainer.

I think I will recoup my HSMP expenses and go back to Australia ASAP.

I certainly agree with kumar upon this. I have been living in the UK for the past 10 years and all I can say is that it is NOT definitely the place to be. If you need money and are from abroad then do consider london for say 3years but dont think of settling becos there are so many british out there who are struggling to get a better living. Think about there london trains and level of racism going on out there and if u are on a work permit they will squeeze u out to do a job cos they have control over you. For me personally I am in NY and living a far much better life and I regret having lived in london, to be honest I havent even saved money while in london for myself cos rent is extremely high, tax and cost of living are alarming. For those prospective teachers and nurses out there planning to come in the Uk , think again! Plan well and check if u gonna be able to save some money.about the HSMP what i can say is if u have a good job with 6years exp with good pay in your country then stay there and if u are among these new graduates with 1-2 yrs exp. then consider the HSMP cos you are fresh young and able to take risk.

UK is a perfectly nice country. I am surprised people come here and then start whinging.
UK is definitely better than any desi or East European country.
I have been to 9 different countries in different parts of the globe and have lived and worked in the US. I liked US but I prefer to live in the UK.
If someone does not like the UK, they should go back. No one is stopping them.

well, I have never been to US or Aus..
But i haev spent 2.5 years in UK..and it looked alright to me..May be b'coz i never stayed in London...always in a typical British county..
If u r getting 1800/2000 pounds p.m , i would say it is good enough..
Also hearing that IT market is doing well
This is my personal opinion though

£1000 can be saved per month easy - this includes owning a car, commuting etc.
