Because of illness in my family I recently took a six month part-time status at my job in the Netherlands. I was still on their payroll and paying taxes during that time - only on half-time status. I kept a room at a friend's in the Netherlands during that time, but didn't re-register after leaving my apartment. I have now purchased a home and will be moving into it the first of June.

My question is: Will my part-time status for six months adversely affect my application for Dutch citizenship in another 2.5 years? I was still on the Dutch payroll - but not "officially" registered at a city hall. Does anyone have experience with this?

If there is a break - does this mean I have to start all over again from the time I resume full-time status?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Chana

Hi Chana

I believe that as long as you can provide evidence that you have been legally working in the Netherlands for three years you can get an "open work permit" and then apply for PR after five years of residence in the Netherlands. I don't believe that your part-time status for six months due to family illness will affect your residence status.

Hope this helps!
