Hi everybody. I was wondering if anyone could help with a question on what the best course of acton would be for a same-sex partner on a work permit in Germany.

Here's the situation:
- I am a non-EU national legally employed in Germany (full-time, unlimited contract). My residence permit has been extended several times since I came here in 1999 and I am told I will be given permanent residence in 1,5 years or sooner
- My partner is a non-EU national currently on a 2nd year residence permit in another EU country.

We would like to finally move in together and have a common home, however I'm very confused about our options:
- should I bring my partner over as a student for 1 or 2 years and then ask for residence permit for him? (In other words: can a non-citizen permanent resident legally bring a non-EU partner to Germany?)
- should I look for a job and a work permit in another country (e.g. Australia, Netherlands)- which I would have no problem considering?

Apologies if this board is the wrong forum for this kind of question, but I'm not really sure where to turn to.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

they have a law (passed a year ago) that allows you to enter a partnership, so he'll be able to reside in Germany (but not work, it's the same as with marriages)
