I am a US citizen currently working in Germany. As of 1.7.2004 I will be out of a job. I am seeking German residency (after 5 years) and citizenship (after 8 years). My problem is this: you must hold an Aufenthaltstitalerlaubnis for the uninterruped specified period above to be eligible. I have had one for 2 years already, but need a way to keep it uninterrupted after July. I am searching for another job and also applying to the university as ways to gain the sponsership. Does anyone know of another way to gain an Aufenthaltstitalerlaubnis other than through work, university, or marriage? Any ideas on what I can do between now and July to insure that I keep an Aufenthaltstitalerlaubnis without interruption? Thanks.
