In April I submitted an application to London for Independent Skilled Migration which was complete with Medical and Police Certificate and all the documentation required to support my points claim. A month later I had a letter giving my case number and a note to say the AVERAGE processing time was 12 months. The letter basically said “Don’t call us we’ll call you.”

Has anyone had any experience of how long it will be before I hear anything. So far I have resisted calling but after 8 months of no contact at all I am becoming increasingly anxious.

We submitted our independent skilled migration application to London in November 2000 together with police and health checks and other than an acknowledgement at that time we have heard nothing. We were given 9 months as the quoted average processing time but if you look at the London HC website the time is now 15 months average processing time for those in the pipeline. Another discussion board says they are now processing September and October 2000 applications. Its a long haul. I gave up my job in September and sold our house this week so not much to do now except play on the pc go to the Gym and try not to watch Bewitched or Neighbours too much!

It could take anything from 6 to 12 mo if you're lucky, but sometimes even longer.

And yes, you should sit down and wait for them to call you. Don't try to reach them, they don't like it. But most probably, they'll send you a letter.

My family and I also posted an application in November 2000 like Dave, and like yourself resisted the temptation to call for 9 months as per original quote, but we have now contacted the consolate in London (roughly every month)to inquire on the current processing month, ie last told October 3 weeks ago, we have had a favourable response upto now with no hard feelings from staff, but like yourself we are desperate to go and are just waiting for the letter to drop through the door.

Unlike Dave we have not sold up as yet but are not far away with other preps, we expect to hear around Feb 2002.

Anyway hang in there, see you in OZ.

Steve
