I am just about to finish my IT studies in Sydney (post-secondary, Kent Institute), but I have no work experience. I would like to immigrate to Australia, and as far as I know if I finish my studies here I don't have to have any work experience to stay. Apart from work experience I have enough points to pass (over 110).

Could you tell me whether it is true, or not?

Thanks very much your help.

Hi Sandor

This is correct - if you have completed an Australian qualification less than 6 months prior to lodging your visa application you do not need to meet the recent work experience requirement. You must meet all other basic requirements and hold a suitable skills assessment for your nominated occupation (worth 60 points), be a holder of a Student visa, and meet other requirements for eligible overseas students in Australia.

Hope this clarifies matters for you!

All the best

Is postgraduate study counted as work experience. I have a BSc in computer science from Turkey and an MSc in management science from UK but no work experience. Am I eligible to make an application?

Hi Baris

I think I covered this topic in your assessment privately but to reiterate, you must have at least one year of full-time work experience in a skilled occupation before being eligible to apply.

Hope this clarifies matters.
