My wife and I are looking to spend a year in Australia, with a possible view to permanent emigration. While a Working Holiday Maker's visa would probably suit my wife, I am over the max. age limit for this visa (33 to be precise). Should I, therefore, be looking to obtain a full work visa? FYI, I have a BEng(Hons) from a UK university and 11 years experience as a professional software engineer, with the past 3 spent contracting. My area of specialisation is real-time embedded systems mainly using C/C++ for development.

We are both British citizens.

Thanks in advance,
Phil

HI Phil

If you only want to go out to OZ for a year initially, I would advise the Working Holiday Visa for your wife and a Long-Stay Temp Bus Visa for yourself, based on a job offer and employer sponsorship. WIth your qualifications and experience in the field you are in, you should have no problem in finding a job in Australia. If I dare suggest you could travel there on a tourist visa for up to six months, and if you are able to find a job, you could apply for a LSTB visa on the basis of your employer sponsorship (you may need to leave the country to pick up this visa, however).

Let me know how we might be able to help!

Best regards

Elfa
