Portuguese Schengen Visa

Post by dehazen » Mon Jul 13, 2009 3:59 pm

I'm from South Africa and my husband has a Dutch passport. We live in the UK.
We want to travel to Portugal together with our son, to visit my husband's parents who live there.

I'm struggling to get information regarding the documents I need for a Schengen Visa from the Portuguese embassy.

Can anyone help me with this, please?

Thank you.

Anna

Why have you not applied for a Residence Card (Form EEA2) as a family member of your EU husband? You can usually travel visa free to most EU Schengen countries when you have this sort of permit in your passport.
Perhaps you can give the Portuguese Embassy a call and ask what documents they require for the schengen visa. Here's their contact http://www.theschengenoffice.com/portugal_embassy.html
All the best!

Which nationality is your son? I presume Dutch and/or British and/or South African?

Anyway, it doesn´t matter - yee are both family-members of an EU-citizen. As such you do not need any visa, but a bunch of nerves. Read >>here<< how and why yee are allowed to travel to Portugal visa-free!

This also applies to any other Schengen-country with the unuaual >>exception<< of Switzerland.

Christian

You need to fill out the form which you can download at your embassy. Then you also need the following:

passport photo
invitation
bank account statement
Schengen visa fee
travel and medical insurance
flight/train/bus ticket
hotel reservation

(I got the list from this site about schengen visa which is quite fine schengen visa)

I think i have the list complete, but better check with your embassy, it is only a phone call. You can call any schengen state embassy, you do not have to call the portugese one, the requirements are the same in all schengen countries.

Hi xjessie007,

the OP does not need a visa, as he is married to an EU-national.

This should read "the requirements should be the same in all schengen countries". Reality shows they are quite different, as the individual embassies have no clue about the regulations under which they work. You can sample different answers embassies give to the same question >>here<<.

dehazen, Do you have a Residence Card issued by the UK because of your relationship with an EEA citizen?
