Hello All,

My wife is about to apply for naturalization (10 yrs + 1ILR) later this month, but at the same time we also want to apply for my 3 year old daughter who is Canadian, and has been living with her in the UK since 2011 and is also on ILR. I don’t live (and not settled) in the UK and not a British Citizen. I would like to know if we apply for my daughter’s naturalization under section 3.2?
I got this from the Guide MN1 on page 14
[Children born abroad to parents who are applying for British citizenship
“Where one or both parents are applying for British citizenship they may apply for one or more children who are not automatically British at birth (see “Automatic acquisition of British citizenship” above) to be registered as British citizens as part of a “family application”. Children in this category will be considered at the Home Secretary’s discretion and will usually be registered only if both the parents are granted or already hold British citizenship, or if one parent holds British citizenship and the other is settled in the UK.”]

Thanks.

Hope it helps.
Thank you for you kind help. I have spoken to UKBA and I was told that the application can take up to 6 months and my application is in progress. When I inquired about my original passports and bio metric card, she said that I can make a request for a return of my original documents form UKBA website. I have checked this site before, it says that "You might have to cancel your application - you’ll be told if you have to do this when you ask for your documents back."

Has anyone requested for return of documents? please share you experience and advise. As I am planning to travel, I need to get hold of my passport.

Thank you.

Recently i requested my documents . They returned in 2 working days.
It wont affect our application process. They told me that if they required they will ask again.

So you can request the documents.
I requested only passports and marriage certificate only.

Thanks

Why do you say it will take 2 more months ? Typically time taken is 2-3 months and the max time is 6 months. I applied in first week of May and urgently need to travel by end of Aug. Now I'm quite lost on what to do.

Hello all,

This is regarding the MN1 application I have submitted for my daughter. Both parents have ILR and I have used NCS (Barking). Submitted on 19th May 2014. Acknowledgement received in 7 days.

Her FLR (T1 - dependant) visa expired on 7th July and I am not sure if she is considered as an 'over stayer' now???? In addition to this she needs to travel to India later this month and by the looks of it she may not get the naturalisation approval before that time. The questions I now have are:

1. Is she considered as an 'over stayer' ?
2. Can she travel to India without any issue on her Indian passport?
3. With a bit of luck, if the naturalisation letter turns up before she travels:
3.1 - can she apply for British passport and then leave the country?
3.2 - If this happens can someone else carry her passport to India so that she can return to the UK?
3.3 When and where is she expected to return her Indian passport?
4. If the letter arrives after she left the country, can she apply for the British passport in India?

Apologies for the complex questions (may not be too complex for some of you).

Looking forward to your replies.

Thanks and regards,

Karan

Hi All,
Sorry for the confusion .I sent request to return our documents. When they called back to to process the return request they told me that you have to wait roughly 2 more months to get back the documents if you don't want now. So i told then return the documents.
Based on the conversation they indirectly(slipped the word) told it will take two more months.

Please excuse me if missguide anyone.

Thanks
Ravera

Got the email bellow from Nationality service today @ 12:38PM
"Dear Mr. Arif,

Thank you for your enquiry.

All applications for citizenship are subject to enquiries to ensure that the statutory requirements have been satisfied. Because of these enquires, we anticipate that applications may take up to six months to complete. Some applications may be dealt with more quickly and some may take longer, depending on the nature of the enquiries to be carried out. Our service standards set out how quickly we aim to decide applications for British citizenship. The standard is that we will decide 95% of applications within six months.

Is there anyone else who applied in June ?

Hi Charimatic,
I'm in the same situation, i applied a bit later than you, 12th June, saw that the processing times were 10-11 weeks and was confident i'd get it in time to apply for the passport. As we've got travel plans in September, we're pretty worried whether we'll be able to get things done in time!

I've reviewed this thread a couple of times, analyzing the time frames, it seems that it doesn't depend on the date you applied, the home office seems to bundle applications who applied in 1-2 weeks of each other and all those people get their certificates at almost exactly the same date! You'll see that's true for people who applied back in December 2013 and all of them got their certificated just on 6-8th February. So i think its more than a coincidence!

Let's hope for the best, and if you do get yours in the next week or two please keep us posted.

All the best! :)
