Surnmae change after ILR (no BRP card)

Hello, My wife holds an ILR since 2011. She doesn't have BRP card as this was introduced later. Her passport and ILR visa is on maiden name. Now, she wants to change her surname. The following are the queries...

1. Does she has to get a new ILR visa stamping with her new surname?
2. If yes, does she need to apply for BRP card? We never had BRP card as this was introduced post our ILR status.

I would really appreciate any help on this.
