ILR from UK but want to move to Ireland permanently

Post by Grand2015 » Mon Jan 20, 2020 8:31 pm

Hi guys just wanted to ask a quick question. So my sister in law has an indefinite leave to remain from UK. Would she be able to come and live in Ireland and be able to apply for a visa to stay and work in Ireland. I get that coming to Ireland means she no longer is allowed to her ILR status. But could she come here and apply for a visa in Ireland. And how could she go about applying for a visa in Ireland . Her infant child is British, but she herself is a Pakistan national.

Many thanks.

Hello

Her UK ILR doesn't confer any right outside the UK. The question would have been the same if she wanted to immigrate from Pakistan to Ireland.

She will be seen as a Pakistani national only. The fact that she has an ILR in the UK wouldn't make any difference. Foreign countries see your passport not your residence.

She then need to find a suitable immigration path to Ireland such as work, marriage or similar.

But honestly, she is so close to the British citizenship, that it would be crazy for her to abandon her status in the UK and start from scratch somewhere else.
