Self employment during the Graduate (PSW) visa

Post by kalven » Wed Nov 16, 2022 5:47 pm

Hi
Apologies if this question is inappropriate.

1. My brother is currently in his graduate or PSW visa in UK. he got an offer to be self-employed - is this something that is possible during this visa period?

2. And after his graduate visa expires can he find a different sponsor for tier 2 and carry on self-empoyed?

1. Ukvi website states very clearly what he can and cannot do!!

https://www.gov.uk/graduate-visa
What you can and cannot do
With a Graduate visa you can:

work in most jobs
look for work
be self-employed
continue living in the UK with your partner and children, if they’re eligible
do voluntary work
travel abroad and return to the UK
You cannot:

apply for most benefits (public funds), or the State Pension
work as a professional sportsperson
2. Tier 2 doesn't exist. It is a Skilled Worker visa and no, he cannot be self employed on a skilled worker visa. He can only work for the sponsor and must be on the PAYE payroll.
