I had 4 points in 2004, applied for naturalisation in 2006, the points were taken off my licence in 2007, but i am sure they came up on their Garda checks. Got approval a month ago without any issues.
I wouldn't worry about penalty points unless you are nearing 12 or if they are for no Tax or No Insurance.

Called This Morning..

Still same answer .." waiting for report from outside agencies"

I was told that, Atleast couple of months before i hear from them...

No point in calling them at all..no consistency in their reply.

There is absolutely no point in contacting the Department of Justice by telephone, for a variety of reasons.

Communicate only by registered letter.

12:15 might have been a bit late already. They only answer the phone between 10am and 12:30 noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So, if they haven't answered your call by 12:25, I think there's no point in waiting on the phone as they won't take your call anymore.

There are several "strategies" for calling INIS. One is to call on the stroke of 10:00am. However, I think most people would tend to ring at this time. What I do is to try to ring at about 11:30, when most people have already called... However, there are still many, many people calling at this time.

So what I usually do is to ring from my mobile phone and from Skype at the same time, and try and retry as many times necessary. Some times I have used Skype, my mobile phone and my desk phone at work simultaneously!

Some times I redial for about 20 minutes before I'm placed in the queue. Once I'm in the queue, I just wait and stop trying on the other phone(s). But if it's already 12:25, I usually hang up as I don't think they'll be taking any more calls after that time.

Also, I've noticed somehting else... if you call early (say, before 11:00) the INIS person tends to be more helpful and more patient. But when it's 12:15 or later, they just want to get rid of you as soon as possible. They're probably longing to go for lunch! :)

Good luck on Thursday and don't forget to tell us how your call went. Oh, and another thing, usually you're able to get a bit more information when ringing on the phone than when writing.

I am new to the forum but have found it very informative.

I have just sent an email to a couple of TDs, complaining about the problems in INIS and giving links to this thread and the spreadsheet.

So, let's see if we get any action from them...
No reply yet, not even an acknowledgement. I doubt if there ever will be.

Hi everyone,
Congrats TRV and others who got their naturalisation recently.

Quick one, am not naturalised yet BUT always been getting voting cards for Local, National and even European votes( since 2006 when i applied for naturalisation)
My girlfriend applied last year and this time around she's got voting card for european election also ?

Are non-naturalised NON-EEA members allowed to vote for european / national elections ?

Till now i just keep them in my collection, coz dont want to get into unnecesssary trouble.

What are your thoughts on this ?
Regards
Tiggs

Hi Tiggs,

Non-EEA nationals, resident in Ireland, may vote in local elections only.

Got approval letter via registered post yesterday - but missed the postman. Picked up this morning.

Both me and my wife applied December 2006. We already had Long Term Residence issued February 2006 and July 2006 (it was just 2 months wait then).
Confirmed for accepted documents in January 2007.
October 2008 they ask for affidavit.
Documents submitted end of October 2008.
In total 29 months of waiting time.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE THAT IS EXPECTING APPROVAL !!!

So its a mistake on their part is it ? or did other people in queue for naturalisation also have recieved voting cards for june EU elections ?

Congratulations to all the guys who have recently got their approvals. It seems like things are moving fast.

Just a quick Qs to all. I was just wondering if getting the indefinite residency (stamp 5/6) would speed-up things?
