Visa validity dates

My friend is currently working in UK using a work permit visa. His work permit will expire on 30 August, 2004. Meanwhile, from 1 August 2004 until 1 August 2005, he gets another placement in UK that falls under permit free training visa.

Will the permit free training visa be issued from the date he applies for the visa, i.e if he applies on 12 July 2004, will the visa be issued from 12 July 2004 until 12 July 2005, even though his new work placement is from 1 August 2004 until 1 August 2005 ?

Or, will the permit free training visa be issued from the new work placement start date , i.e 1 August 2004 and will be issued for the full year until 1 August 2005 ?

If successful the permit free visa will be issued to reflect the start and finishing dates of the relevant employment i.e. 1 August 2004 to 1 August 2005.
