work permit france

I have an internship position in paris already, however I need information on receiving a work permit. I am not a U.S. citizen. I have citizenship from the Republic of Korea; ho wever I have lived in the U.S. for most of my life and went to an American University. Basically, I was only born in Korea. My employer said I may have problems since Korea is not one of the 8 nations that the French gov't works with in granting work permits. Will I have a problem? How do I find out if I will be granted one? I've already e-mailed the French consulate, however they have yet to respond, and I need to know ASAP.
