Pregnancy grant/ free prescription

Post by rashmipw12 » Thu Jul 08, 2010 12:47 pm

Health in pregnancy grant and Free prescription in pregnancy. Are these two different benefits?? What are the eligiblity criteria for them? I am on Tier 1 dependant visa, pregnant and confused... :?

After a long search i have concluded that Free prescription does not fall under public fund category and hence i can ask for it....kindly confirm.

Thanks in advance..

They are different things, and you rightly conclude that having free prescriptions is not a problem, and allied to that, having free NHS dentistry (up to when your child is one year old) is not a problem either.

HiPG? Whilst that is not (yet) within the definition of Public Funds, you may find that you do not qualify to claim it. But more information please? Your nationality, and that of your spouse/partner? And if either of you worked in another country, apart from that of your nationality, before coming to the UK, details please.

Doesn't that get issued by your doctor or midwife?

My midwife issued the form which i filled and posted at the given address. After 6 weeks i am suppose to receive a prescription exemption card (looks like an i card) with my name endorsed on it which i can show to the pharmacist while buying any medicines during pregnancy.

Its over 10 weeks now and i have no clue where to call for a follow up. Any leads shall be appreciated.

my wife had the same story, at the end she did get the card with long delay.any way you will not be able to get any medicines using this card, only ones with prescription from doctor.
good luck to you, and to your baby :)

WRONG PRESCRIPTION CLAIM

Post by Gamini » Mon Jul 04, 2011 1:21 pm

I am in work permit VISA and due to apply ILR this year. My wife who is in dependant VISA claimed free prescription only once under income support. She claimed unknowingly 1 year ago, but refunded the chanrge to PCT (Primary Care Trust) . She did this only once (8 pounds).

Will this affect our ILR? Should I consider solicitor? Should I declare as claimed public fund?

If anybody got any idea, it would be appreciated.

I don't understand. Who made the income support claim?

Or is it the case that she was entitled to free prescriptions, for example because of pregnancy or having giving birth in the past 12 months?

Thank you very much for your reply John.

She was not in pregnancy, when the pharmacy asked my wife whether you are employed. My wife replied, No, so the pharmacy did not charge the prescription charge I assume that they considered my wife as low income support seeker.

When I went asked pharmacist and they didn't have any record and they sent to PCT. It took 6 months for me to contact the right department and send the postal order and got the receipt.

Eventhou I paid back, I am not sure it will affect my ILR?

The Pharmacist had no right to grant that exemption. It is not their decision at all. All they are required to do is to process the prescription free of charge if someone signs the declaration on the back of the prescription, and ticks the relevant box.

Applying for ILR? You do not have a problem here. Relax.

Another help John.

My wife started last year as a self employed. As her earning is very less £2000/year, she got Small Earning Exception certificate so that she needs not pay Class 2 National Insurance number. If earning is less than £5035/year then need not pay NI and so this excemption.

I hope that will not come under public fund.

I got appointment next week. Should I disclose this genuine mistake by a separate letter? I am hesitating to disclose it as it may give negative opinion about my application.

In the same time, incase if they find this and I don't disclose it, then that also problem.

Can you please suggest?

As I said on 5th July :-
Applying for ILR? You do not have a problem here. Relax.
-: so do not mention it. There is nothing to mention. You did nothing wrong at all.

Indeed mentioning it might just complicate matters, and cause a totally unnecessary query in the mind of the person looking at the application.

Thanks for your reply John.

You are correct, I should not mention it.
