Qualifying period

Post by dsh10 » Wed Mar 26, 2014 2:58 pm

Hi there,

I have hopefully a simple question that needs confirmation.

My husband and I are planning to put in a joint application for Naturalisation soon. We both got our ILRs on 7 Mar 12. However I only have been in this country from 20 June 2009. He has been in the country since Jan 2007 and I am sure he qualifies to apply now. When we applied for our ILR in Jan 2012, I qualified for an ILR since I was with him for 3 years. I have read that we need a 5 yr qualifying period. I have not seen anywhere that for the Naturalisation process I would qualify with a 3 yr period but my husband thought it so. So I was wanting confirmation when would I qualify to apply?

Thank you and looking forward to some advice.

You can only qualify with 3 years residence if you apply to naturalise as spouse of British Citizen, so in effect, you qualify with 3 years residence once your husband is approved and attends his ceremony.

Why don't you both apply in a joint application in on 21st June 2014 when you have reached 5 years residence??

Thanks for that,

Now that I am sure, we will put in a joint application on 21/6/14. The husband is just rather impatient, thats all :D
