Query on Nationality

Post by Yash001 » Mon Nov 02, 2015 8:31 pm

Hi All,

I have a query to clarify. I have booked my ceremony for 17th Nov but I am planning to travel to India in Dec-15 using my Indian passport. My son is BC and I need to apply for his visa which we are thinking to do so now(5th Nov). In the Indian Visa form, we need to mention father and mother nationality. When we will apply for my son Indian visa, we will be Indian but after ceremony on 17th Nov, I believe our nationality will change to British. So Am I correct in stating father/mother nationality as 'Indian' in the Indian Visa application form? Appreciate if somebody can help here.

Regards,
Yash

Yes, you are still an Indian citizen as you are only a British citizen once you have attended the ceremony and received your naturalisation certificate.

Thank you so much CR001. Just one last query, when we will travel to India in Dec-15, we will be BC by then. Do I need to inform Indian Embassy about the change in my nationality given that my nationality was Indian during my child visa application however it will change to BC when we will travel?

No, you have a 90 day grace period within which to travel on your Indian passport before penalties will start applying. You should surrender your passport once you return and have your British passport.
