Questions regarding ILR BRP card, Naturalisation and travel

Hello all,

My husband is applying for the naturalisation certificate in March (May be before 18th of march) and
I was wondering if any of you could help me with certain queries

1) I heard the fee is changing from 18th March. At the moment the fee is £1005, I would like to know how much the fee would be if he applies after 18th March?

2) We have a plan of visiting India in the month of August from 6th to 26th. Will it be difficult to travel while your application is in process.

3) Does the NCS charge a fee and if they do, how much it would be to apply through them?

4) Once he has applied for the naturalisation, can he travel with the Indian passport and ILR permit card?

5) What would happen if the Uk authority would ask for additional documents for his application and we are in India, is there any time limit to produce the additional documents?

6) If he gets an approval letter and if we are not in home, can that be collected later ? Is there any time limit for the same?

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated

2. No issues if you have had approval. Only possible though if you apply through NCS so you get to keep your original documents.

3. Yes they do. It varies from council to council. It is not a fee set by HO but by the councils individually.

4. Yes, until he attends his ceremony.

5. Yes, there is usually a time limit (2 weeks) to submit documents. He also has to submit his biometric at the Post Office once HO send him the letter.

6. It comes in the post, 2nd class mail. You have a time limit within which to book the ceremony (21 days) and he has to attend the ceremony within 90 days of approval.

By your responses I understand that Once he applies for the Naturalisation certificate (Through NCS) ,
his application will be in process (It says that it might take 10-15 weeks as a processing time- 5 months until August) so we can travel with his passport and ILR card without any problem?

Regardless of when his application is accepted, he will not be British until he has taken the ceremony.

Officially, naturalisation applications can take up to 6 months to process; in reality it can be less than 1 month or more than 2 years depending on how complex the case is. Check out the timeline threads in this forum, a lot of people seem to be getting accepted in 2-4 months at the moment.
