Royal forces reserves on tier 2 general visa

Post by Becelysse » Wed Feb 06, 2019 9:08 am

Good morning,

I was wondering if anyone has any advice regarding joining the royal forces (either navy or army) reserves on a tier 2 general visa?
Is this allowed? And if so, do I have to join as the same profession as what I’m sponsored as (as I believe it’s technically a second job since I’m being paid) or is cause it’s the forces there’s leadway to choose a different careeer path?
I.e. I work as a physiotherapist, would I have to join the reserves as a physiotherapist officer or could I continue to do my day job as a Physio and then be with the reserves as a different officer?

I hope that makes sense!

Has anyone else tried to join the reserves on this visa before?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Cheers,
Rebecca

Your second or supplementary job must be at the same level and in the same profession as your main tier 2 job.

If you want to do a different job, you need a second tier 2 visa and sponsor.

The armed forces has a different set of rules for immigration purposes. There maybe is an exemption that allows you to join and undertake other activities outside the Tier 2 conditions.
There are not many people with forces immigration knowledge as it is such a narrow field. Talk to your reserve forces recruitment team, they will be able to give you an answer.
