Which passport to send in applying for first British Passport

In applying for a British passport, the guidelines say I should submit "the passport you used to come into the UK or the foreign passport you’re included on." The Canadian passport that I "used to come into the UK on" has obviously since expired and I have a new one. Should I send the expired passpo...

Re: Forgot to mention day trip to France on Application

It is never late if you have not got decision. I sent two covering letters after sending original app. From experience , Send letter in guaranteed next day , Just recorded delivery is not 100% sure letter will be delivered next day. It takes 5-10 days to reach the letter to case worker because file...

Re: Forgot to mention day trip to France on Application

There are differing opinion on this - some say just provide the absolute necessary - others say submit as much as possible. I don't think you will be penalised for providing more, but it can always generate more questions and therefore delay. Just my 2p's worth I have picked up working in a large c...

Re: Forgot to mention day trip to France on Application

I finally got my naturalisation case number, and I'm planning on sending a letter updating my application to include the one day trip I took to France. Again, I know since I left and came back the same day, it doesn't count as a "whole day" absence, but I want to disclose it just for completeness sa...

Re: Forgot to mention day trip to France on Application

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll just send a letter advising them of the single day trip for my own peace of mind. Another question...Royal Mail tracking indicates the Home Office has received my application, but I haven't gotten an acknowledgement letter, and in fact they haven't even debite...

The day trip won't count, as you need to ignore out and return days, in this case it happen both on the same day!
Yes, I understand the day trip doesn't count in terms of "days absent", but I'm just unclear if I have to report it anyway.

Re: Forgot to mention day trip to France on Application

I double checked my passport, and that day trip was the only one I didn't list. So I should write to the Home Office informing them of the trip? What's the best way to contact them? I still haven't even received their letter confirming my application (thought I did confirm it was delivered).a I'm al...

Forgot to mention day trip to France on Application

Hi all, I recently applied for Naturalisation via NCS. About a week later I suddenly realised I had forgotten to mention a day trip I had made to France (via coach tour) a couple years ago. I think it just slipped my mind because I know that if you leave and return from the UK on the same day it doe...

Question on addresses/foreign

Hi all...I'm the spouse of a British Citizen applying for naturalisation under the three year rule. During the past five years, I've been out of the country on and off, sometimes for months at a time (once as long as six months 4 years ago). I'm fine on the physical presence requirements, but my que...

Re: Residency Requirement Discretion

Only whole day absences from the UK count. So, you will have been present in the UK on both 20th and 21st Feb 2015 (but check the time the flights landed in the UK and took off from the UK carefully). You need to be physically in the UK (date of application - three years + 1 day), so for an applica...

Re: Residency Requirement Discretion

..it looks like they're supposed to use discretion and allow me to "re-delcare" the application date if necessary? I believe that particular discretion is only to allow you to move the date to a date where you meet the requirement. In your case, that's months off. I'm not sure the HO will simply ho...

Re: Residency Requirement Discretion

But with NCS, I'm not sure if the app date is the date of my NCS appointment NCS appointment date is considered the date of application. You are however cutting it in incredibly fine. Why the rush to apply in February?? I'm planning on doing some travelling this summer, which would put me over the ...

Re: Residency Requirement Discretion

What are the dates of the absence on either side? Are you posting it yourself or applying through NCS? I arrived in the UK on 20 Feb 2015, departed on 21 Feb 2015. For approximately 60 days prior to my arrival I was in Canada, and for 60 days after I was on holiday in Italy. Returned to the UK 20 A...

Re: Residency Requirement Discretion

If you were in the UK on 20th Feb 2015, you can apply on this date in 2018 or 21st if you were also still in the UK. The 'physically present at the start of the qualifying period' requirement is mandatory, no discretion is applied. Right. This is what's causing me a bit of confusion, and it's impor...

Re: Residency Requirement Discretion

Assuming of course that you hold ILR. 1. Should be fine yes. 2. There is no '30 or 28 days early' concession for citizenship applications. Your date of application by post is the date HO receives it. If you apply through NCS at the council (you get to keep your original documents and can apply for ...

Residency Requirement Discretion

Hi all, I'm the Canadian spouse of a British Citizen, and will be allying for citizenship under the three year rule (though I've been in the UK for 6 years). Just had a few questions on the residency requirement. My "start" date would be 20 February 2015. I was in the UK on that date, but out of the...
