there are plenty free appointments available to main centers. for example in London its croydon.

may be small centers have few of them which might have been taken by others.
Do you know that for sure that they don't charge or are just guessing?

Re: Biometric evidence and why is it so ridiculous?

you can book free appointment at other centers as well. does not have to be cardiff one. but unfortunately you have to submit the biometric which is the core requirement for your application to be consider. As long as I know, appointments at centres are not free. My nearest centre (15 m away) would...

Re: Brexit Cancelled, What next for Settled (ILR) and Pre-Settled Status

But had you already applied for and were granted PR under the old rules? I think the point is that they would be unlikely to take an immigration status away from you after it's been granted, even if the rules change for the worse. Yes, "likely" is one thing, "possible" is another thing. Will they l...

Re: Brexit Cancelled, What next for Settled (ILR) and Pre-Settled Status

Rarely do they act retrospectively though. Yes they did, when the con-lib govt changed the criteria for eligibility for EEA-PR back in 2014 retroactively. I was eligible according to the old criteria but not the new ones. And just one more word: Windrush! Any government can change immigration rules...

Re: Unable to check/see online status for granted settled status

From 1 April (no jokes) the settled status _should_ be linked to your NINO. So an employer should be able to see if you have SS or not. This is the plan.

That's right - if Brexit goes ahead, the EEA immigration route applications become obsolete in December 2020.
Are you positive about that? On a Facebook forum I've read the EEA route will close on the 29 March.

The NI number does not confer any specific immigration status - it is the main reference for the tax system.
After the 29.3.19, settled status will be linked to NINO. So, it will be linked to immigration status for Settled Status holders one day.

Re: Settled Status and CSI

Provided the HO and government don't move the goalpost halfway through the game, like they have always done, you don't need any additional insurance. Bear in mind that, at the moment, your settled status is only linked to your passport and not your NINO yet (it should be after the 29 March). In othe...

Re: Settled status processing times

. I would be careful about not applying though. depending on how things unfold you may get stuck in the 17 years paper work that the HO will have to go in order to register everyone if you apply after 30th of March. I don't get where the 17 years after the 30 March come from. Are you saying the HO ...

Re: Settled status processing times

I have reasons to believe the so called Settled Status is just a placebo for this government to test the waters. Who gets it and who doesn't is just a random process. @Davidclr , you hit the nail on the coffin. The government has sold this scheme as a "registration" for EU citizens to the semi-illit...

Re: Housing benefit + JSA --> UC + part-time job

I'm currently recieving JSA and Housing benefit and I found a zer-hour job (minimum wage) so if I accept the job and transfer to Universal Credit, will I lose the housing benefit? If your new job is less than 16 hours a week, you'll still stay on legacy benefits and not transferred over to UC, but ...

System offered me pre-settled status (I suppose HMRC records matching did not work), which I obviously did not accept and therefore provided evidence of residence for the past 6 years.
Did you have to pay before being offered pre-settled status or after?

A beta trial of the EU settled status scheme will open later on this month. Why not wait for it, rather than a lengthy PR application?

See this thread for background information and advice already given on similar question.
There was no advice given there. This question is about ESA; the other thread was about retained worker status, but in a completely different context.

ESA and exercising treaty rights

===MODS PLEASE DO NOT MERGE THIS QUESTION INTO AN EXISTING THREAD===

Can a period on ESA (Employment and Support Allowance) count as "exercising treaty rights" in any way? If so, in which circumstances?

Thanks.

Re: Interpretation of "having been employed in the United Kingdom for at least one year"

The two threads were sufficiently similar and related to the same definitions of law (the definition and retention of worker status under the EEA Regulations). They were merged to ensure that anybody responding to either query was aware of the advice that was already given. Well, if that's the case...

Mods' abuse of thread merging

Too many topics have been and are being merged into other topics they don't belong to. This appears to be a constant practice. I've just had a topic of mine merged into an existing thread with a completely different topic.

I wonder why this happens, if not out of spite and/or to show who is the boss.

Re: Does a period on ESA count as "retaining worker status"

With reference to either the 2006 or the revised 2016 EEA regulations, article 6: (2) A person who is no longer working shall not cease to be treated as a worker for the purpose of paragraph (1)(b) if— (a) he is temporarily unable to work as the result of an illness or accident; would a brief perio...
