Re: Passport Application Discussion 2022

With my application, a letter from the taxman was accepted, but the water bill & bank statement was rejected. I ended up posting my NHS number medical card. I've just looked at the requirements on the DFA website:- Proof of address such as original government correspondence such as letter from the ...

Re: Passport Application Discussion 2022

I contacted web chat and had what I can only describe as a "who's on first" discussion about the meaning of the terms "original" and "endorsed by relevant authority". When I asked why the same exact utility bills (aside from the date) were accepted for my FBR application but not for my passport app...

Re: Passport Application Discussion 2022

The advice in that e-mail is out of date it seems....sigh...... They've updated the requirements and I've highlighted the relevant change. Proof of name such as government correspondence like a letter from the NHS, Social Welfare or HM Revenue and Customs. >>If you do not have these, original utili...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

A week ago I pop in and they jumped from March to May. Now they are on October? They aren't half zooming through are they. Makes me, a January 2022 applicant quite optimistic for hearing back potentially next year. Last time I checked a few weeks ago they'd only just got through February. Can't bel...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hello there everyone, first time poster! I applied to join the foreign births register in January 2020 and heard back about my application this week. To cut a long story short, I'm a UK resident/passport holder trying to claim Irish citizenship through my grandmother who was born in the Republic. I...

Re: Passport application proof of name

My PSC includes my middle name. Bank statements and utility bills do not. They only have my first and last name. As part of my passport application, I plan to submit bank statements and utility bills as proof of name. I also plan to submit PSC as requested for identity verification. Will this appar...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi Everyone, Long time lurker as this forum has kept my hopes alive. Need to vent though! Applied and sent documents in June 2020 (never got confirmation of documents arrived, but I tracked them via mail). I see all these July-October approvals so I finally called the urgent number. After 28 months...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Both my partner and I had our confirmations of documents being received on 9th March 2020. My partner had her confirmation of address and approval through about 6 weeks ago but I’ve heard nothing on my one. Given they are apparently processed in strict date order, I’m confused as to why there are s...

Re: FBR Citizenship Through Grandparent Issues

Totally agree with G Dog's reply that your best option here is to talk to an Immigration lawyer. Also, you only need 1 Irish born grandparent, so I would recommend using the 1 that you have the most documents for. Regarding the name changes, it sounds like a case "proof of usage", i.e. not officiall...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi all! 👋🏻 Is it usual for there to be a big variation in the order of applications processed? I applied for Foreign Birth Registration on the 15th of March 2020, and my documents were received in Balbriggan on the 23rd of March 2020. I haven't heard anything from the authorities since... I underst...

Re: Irish born grandparent query

Can you help me understand what is the best / cheapest route to take? 10 year old born in England. Father born in England. Grandmother born in Ireland. Father had an Irish passport - expired in 2000. Father applying for a new Irish passport. What is the best route for the 10 year old? Register as a...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

So, just jumped in here after a while and WOW. Previous page is full of March applications and the page afterwards is full of May, June and July scattered all over the place? So its true then, not many people seem to have sent their applications in during the COVID lockdown, which iirc, lasted unti...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I had a question I hadn’t thought of until now. When I land in a country with my Irish passport does that country only see my Irish details so it will look like it’s my first flight? We had very similar timelines in the end - Congratulations! Who knows on your second point - I don't think it's beyo...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Amazing, in the last few weeks they must have updated their estimates. They now claim 12-18 months. Very recently their page also said folks should expect more than two years, it now says around 2 years. https://www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abroad/born-abroad-citizenship-by-descent-faqs/ Looking at ...

Finally got address confirmation email today

Applied online 4/3/20
Docs received 25/3/20

Congrats MK! Long wait. Seems they're pretty consistent at 2 1/2 years at the moment. See you over on the passport threads soon!

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

That certainly is good news. However the dfa’s continued insistence that fbr applications are processed in 2 years when it’s clear that that isn’t the case has me wondering whether they really will manage to get through all 2020 applications by the year’s end. I must be in an optimistic mood, becau...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I wonder if anyone has advice - I am I believe entitled to Irish Citizenship through my Irish born Grandfather. Re: Passport Application Discussion 2022

I completed my online passport application as a FBR applicant from the U.K. on 28th August 2022 and posted the paper copy from the U.K. on 30th August. A nurse colleague verified my application and certified a copy of my passport. I also sent a HMRC letter and nhs number confirmation letter (you ca...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

That's pretty interesting. So this puts them on pace for about 12K applications in 2022, with a 30K backlog seems they definitely need to allocate double the resources they have currently if they are going to bring times down below two years and close to the 1 - 1/12 years pre covid. Seems like the...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hey everyone! Long time lurker on this page but thought I'd share some information that I saw on Kildare St website. Re: Confused, citizenship through grandparent or parent

Hello, My mother was born on the island of Ireland in the 1950s. I was born in the UK in 1988 and in November 2021, I received my first Irish passport based on her birthplace. I am not on the foreign births register as a result of the application being through a parent, not grandparent. My daughter...

Re: Passport Application Discussion 2022

Passport paperwork received today. I have been given an estimate of 3rd October. Does this sound accurate? 4 weeks? Hey John, mine took forever to get there registered mail from California, but was received Monday 9/12 and I also got a 4 week estimated issue date of Oct 11. Looking at the timeline ...
