Spouse visa and right to work

Post by Andover » Fri Nov 28, 2014 9:04 pm

Hello all,

I'm a non-EU spouse of a British citizen and have been granted a spouse visa (valid for 2 years) to live in the UK. I was issued with a paper visa, which states 'no recourse to public funds'. It is silent about the right to work.

I have started to apply for work and prospective employers want me to prove that I have the right to work. All I have is the paper visa. I read this link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... yers-guide
and couldn't find my paper visa in it.

Much appreciated if anyone would please help me understand whether a spouse visa allows me to work and if so, how I can prove the right to work?

Thank you in advance,

Do you mean the visa is pasted into your passport??

You are allowed to work on a spouse visa without any restrictions. If you were not allowed to, it would say 'work not permitted'

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the visa is stuck on my passport page.

I sort of know that I can work on a spouse visa but how do I prove it? Apparently if I had a BPR card, it would say clearly whether work is permitted. The fact that this is not said on my visa is confusing and frankly, frustrating.

Thanks
