Spouse visa extension: when to apply?

My Brp expires on the 4th of march 2019 and I first entered the uk on 9th of june 2016 with a stamp on my passport with a one month valid spouse visa. I need to apply for extension of spouse visa and I am really confused when to do it. I dont want to do it too early or land up being late in my application. Can anyone please guide me? Also I am yet to get my paper work ready, is it very difficult to get appointments early once I decide to send the papers off or can I go in person and submit them too. Pls help

You should apply no sooner than withing 38 days before you reach 30 months residence, counted fro date you entered the UK.

I believe CR001's intention was to write 'within 28 days'.
