Switching from Tier 2 General to Tier 2 Dependent

Post by lucazkoh » Fri May 10, 2019 12:20 pm

Hi,

I’m looking to switch from my Tier 2 General visa to a Tier 2 dependent visa where I will be “dependent” on my partner who has a tier 2 general visa of her own.

1) how much maintenance funds do we have to show? Would it be £630 just for myself or £945 + £630 for her and myself? I am applying on my own as she already has her tier 2 general visa

2) would a joint bank account in both our names be able to be used as proof of funds? Or must they be separate accounts?

3) would I need a criminal record certificate from my home country of Malaysia? I submitted one when I applied for my tier 2 general visa in 2017, but have been living in the UK since and have not left the UK for more than 3 weeks since I received my tier 2 general visa.

Thanks.

1. Depends how long your partner has been in the UK or if their sponsor certified THEIR maintenance. Otherwise, usually £630 for 90 days.

2. Joint is fine.

3. Don't know.

1) hi, she has been in the UK for about 6 years, 4 years tier 4 student then 2 years tier 2 general visa.

2) Since the joint account is fine, we have enough funds (£1575) in that account for the past 3 months so that’s covered

3) do you know of any suitable person to contact to clarify this?

Please and thank you!

1. Then £630 only for yourself held for 90 days minimum.

3. You need to follow what the form asks for.

Hi, thanks for clearing that up

Another question I have is that I am currently working as a pharmacist on my tier 2 general visa, would me going onto a tier 2 dependent visa prevent me from working as a pharmacist?

Based on what I read in the guidance, the only jobs I can’t do are doctor or dentist in training, and a professional sports coach?
