Tax problem: Permanent residency for Tier 2 visa

Post by oan » Wed Jun 05, 2019 5:28 pm

Hello,

Does someone know if tax records affect to apply for Indefinite leave to remain (permanent residency)?

I used to have a Tier 5 visa working for a UK company as a self-employed from 26/08 2014 and 24/06/2015. During the period, I did not have my NI number and did not pay for income tax since I did not understand how I was hired and the tax system works in the UK. In fact, I didn't get any paper from the council. After that, I got a new job and switched my visa category to Tier 2 general and of course, I got my NI number and have been paying for the income tax since 2016. Now that I am planning to apply for Indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in 2021.

I was wondering if someone got in the same situation or know how to deal with this problem.

Kind regards,

Not sure what papers your were expecting from the council??

If you were self employed, you should have registered as self employed with hmrc. I suggest you contact them.
