ILR to British Citizenship

Post by Harry-ILR » Thu May 17, 2018 9:29 am

Hello Gurus,

I'm looking for a advice on when is the best time to apply from ILR to British citizenship. I got my ILR last year in June and since then I only been out for max 4 weeks. If I want to apply for British citizenship/passport what's the procedure and when can I start it ?

Thanks,

Do I have to wait for 12 months to complete before I apply or I can start the application now. I got ILR based on long residency 10 years and since getting ILR June last year, I have still 2-3 weeks to go before I finish a year on the ILR.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, a full 12 months. No early 28 day concession for citizenship.

He said he was absent for 4 weeks, should he add those 4 weeks to the 12 months period? If yes shouldn't he be applying in July?

Anyone is allowed up to 90 days absence in the last 12 months. What exactly are you referring to??

I see, I thought one needs to stay in the UK for exactly 12 months after ILR, that's why the 28 days rule don't apply! Sorry, my misunderstanding.

Hello Gurus,

I am going through the Apply for naturalisation as a British Citizen application and there is a questions asked "Have you made any previous UK immigration applications in the UK or abroad?"

Is that covered my last 10 years history that, How many times I applied under what categories ?

A brief about my past 10 years,

I came as a student here in 2007 then in 2010 PSW then 2012 Tier 2 (Twice) before I got to 10 years.

Thanks,

You to answer the question honestly and list the applications you have made within or from outside the UK.

Thanks CR001,
This is my history since 2007
- Student until 2010 - MSC done
- PSW visa until 2012 then
- Tier 2 General visa until 2017 change (twice)
- Applied for ILR in 2017

Do I need to add ILR too ?

The question is not a trick question. You need to list all applications you have made.

If you don't know the exact dates of your previous applications, you can get subject access request from UKBA. That will show all your applications details and immigration history.

How much fees for that and how long it takes ?

I've filled all details about the application. Some of details I don't remember e.g Few finger prints dates, when I was on Post study work visa employment etc...Will it effect my application ?

It can take a couple of months.

If you don't have the exact dates, you can write month and year on the forum.

My subject access request ended up taking almost 1.5 years, so I wouldn't count on having that quickly for the purpose of applying for citizenship.

My question is that, Why would HO will go and dig deeper about the immigration history e.g finger print dates or other things. there must be centralise system where they get immigration history even we missed anything in the application form.

I think, I'll leave access request based on Hinano's replied. I have just completed 1 year after ILR yesterday and now become eligible for BC so I'll go ahead and apply for without entering finger prints dates for 3 immigration histories.

Do I need to send my passport with the application ?
I don't have my tax return yet as I become self employed last year in July. what do I send ?

HO wants you to fill in the information and sign the declaration that it is true and correct. It is not for HO to go running around looking for your details. They want you to be honest and will match what you state is true with their records. Note that people lie on forms and withhold certain bits, which when HO cross checks, could be classed as deception and a refusal.

Yes, unless you apply through NDRS or NCS, you have to send your passport.

NDRS as far as I am aware is for when you apply online.

NDRS and NCS are at the council offices, Registry department.

Hi,

Yes call your council and book an appointment first before making a final payment. The reason is because you have to submit the application within 10 days of submitting the application online.

I will say it will be good idea to apply Passport application along with naturalisation.

I hope that will help

Thanks
