Traveling with pending charges

Post by Odhast » Sat Jan 22, 2022 8:17 pm

Hello guys, I have an unusual question here. I figured that I have pretty serious battery charge out from Boston. I’m in Europe now and planning to apply for UK tourist visa. My question is this: what checks UK consulate will perform upon checking my background? I don’t know if my warrant is international. So, do that check against interpol’s database and other lower level lists? I suspect that they do, but just wanted to confirm. Thank you in advance.

Can't really answer your question but your post is confusing:
have you actually been sentenced for the charges you mention or is it a case of you might be charged? Why is a warrant out for you?
Personally I don't know what datebases are used at the borders. Are you sure you want to be travelling around Europe with a warrant out for you, rather than "facing the music"? You are normally required to disclose criminality in immigration applications.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

I wasn’t convicted, just charged and the warrant is issued for my arrest. When I’m back in US I’ll face the music. I just don’t want to get extradited from Europe since this gonna take a long time in custody. But UK officials will deny my visa application if the warrant shows up? and Thus I won’t even board a plane to UK.

The US and the UK have a close working relationship and are both parties to an extradition treaty (though many in the Uk consider that it is too one-sided; allowing the UK-to-US extraditions easier than US-to-UK extraditions). Presumably that means that they would have access to at least some of each others databases.

Just a few days ago, Scottish police arrested a person in Glasgow the Americans accuse of having faked his own death. So, be aware that there is close co-operation between the police forces of the two Anglophone countries and factor that into your plans.

As an aside, Americans normally do not need to apply for a visa to the UK. They can be given a visa at the border (at Brussels or Paris, if coming by Eurostar or at Calais or at the sea-port if coming by ferry). So, why don't you try to come by Eurostar? If anything gets flagged up, they will refuse you the visa at that point and you will know that something flagged up on the system.

Thank you for the reply. I have another passport that would require a visa to enter the UK and the reason I want to use it is to get a clear denial based on a possible warrant or get an actual visa and then I know there is nothing going to stop me at the border. I will also look into the Eurostar option, thank you!
